Abstract

Bachground: The concept of couples’ satisfaction is one’s subjective evaluation of marital relationship and the level of perceived happiness from this relationship. Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI) is a self-report measure to assess marital satisfaction. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Persian version of CSI in a non-clinical sample.
Materials and Methods: Factor analysis, translation, structural, convergent validity, and reliability of this index were investigated in 150 married students of Tehran and Shahed Universities recruited by convenience sample method.
Results: According to the results of the exploratory factor analysis, four factors of “marital happiness”, “warmth of the relationship”, “being together”, and “right choice” were identified in the Persian version of CSI. The specifications of exploratory factor analysis were good. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that four factors of the CSI are more valid and reliable. The reliability of the index was 0.96 determined by Cronbach α. The convergence between this index and Locke–Wallace Marital Adjustment Test (MAT) was calculated to be 0.9.
Conclusion: results indicate that Persian version of CSI has appropriate psychometric characteristics. Therefore, this measure can be confidently used in this field of research.

Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, marital satisfaction is not easily achieved. Therefore, helping couples have lasting and satisfying marriages is essential.
Objectives: This research examined the effectiveness of the integrated model of self-regulation-attachment couple therapy on the dimensions of marital satisfaction of insecure couples.
Materials and Methods: The research was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and control group. The research sample was selected from the couples referring to the counseling centers of Khorramabad City, Iran. The couples that at least one of them had an insecure attachment style based on the Adult Attachment Inventory were selected using the purposive sampling method. Then the couples were randomly assigned to the experimental (11 couples) and control (11 couples) groups. Before performing the couple therapy program, the ENRICH questionnaire was administered to all couples as the pretest. Then the couples of the experimental group participated in a therapeutic program during the 8 weekly sessions, but the control group remained on the waiting list. After the completion of the therapeutic sessions, the couples of the two groups completed this questionnaire once again as the posttest. Finally, the obtained data of the two groups were analyzed by ANCOVA and MANCOVA.
Results: The results of ANCOVA indicated that self-regulation-attachment couple therapy was an effective treatment in increasing marital satisfaction. The results of MANCOVA also showed that this therapeutic program increased marital satisfaction based on the sexual relationship, marriage and children, and spiritual beliefs subscales.
Conclusion: Integrated model of self-regulation-attachment couple therapy could be an effective treatment for promoting the marital satisfaction of insecure couples.

Abstract

Background and Aims: Given the success of group psychotherapy as well as drug therapies to improve drug-dependent patients, it is increasingly necessary to compare different interventions to select the most effective way to reduce the problems of methadone maintenance therapists. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of existential group therapy with cognitive-behavioral group therapy on increasing the life satisfaction of addicted people under methadone maintenance therapy.
Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted based on the pretest-posttest method with a control group. The study population included addicted males who underwent methadone maintenance treatment at Qazvin Addiction Treatment and Injury Clinics in 2019, Qazvin, Iran. The participants (n=90) were randomly selected and divided into experimental (existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy) and control groups. Subsequently, the experimental groups participated in 10 sessions of 120-min per week. The data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 22) through a repeated-measures ANOVA.
Results: The results showed the improvement of life satisfaction in the existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy groups (P<0.001); however, the control group showed no significant difference in pretest, posttest, and follow-up. Furthermore, the results indicated no significant difference between cognitive-behavioral and existential therapy groups in terms of life satisfaction (P>0.05).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that both cognitive-behavioral and existential therapies are effective in increasing the life satisfaction of addicted patients under methadone maintenance therapy; however, no significant difference was observed between the two experimental groups regarding the increasing level of satisfaction.

Abstract

Introduction: Marital infidelity is a major factor that affects the strength, durability, and mental health of families. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of marital satisfaction in the causal relationships between forgiveness and the feeling of loneliness with attitudes toward marital infidelity in married students.
Materials and Methods:  This causal-correlational and field study was conducted on 211 married students who were selected from Ahvaz Branch, Islamic Azad University, Ahvaz, Iran, during the academic year 2018-2019 through convenience sampling. The data were collected using the Interpersonal Forgiveness Inventory, Russell’s Loneliness Scale, Whatley’s Attitude towards Infidelity Scale, and ENRICH marital satisfaction questionnaire. Furthermore, the data analysis was performed in SPSS software (version 24) through descriptive and inferential statistics, including mean±SD, Pearson’s correlation, and path analysis.
Results: A direct and negative relationship was observed between forgiveness and attitudes toward marital infidelity (β=-0.181, P=0.013); feeling of loneliness and marital satisfaction (β=-0.252, P=0.001); and marital satisfaction and attitudes toward marital infidelity (β=-0.418, P=0.001). Furthermore, there was a direct and positive relationship between forgiveness and marital satisfaction (β=0.517, P=0.001). Eventually, there was no significant direct relationship between the feeling of loneliness and attitudes toward marital infidelity (β=-0.029, P=0.652). The results of path analysis indicated that marital satisfaction had a mediating role in the relationship between forgiveness and attitude towards marital infidelity (β=-0.165, P=0.001), as well as the association between the feeling of loneliness and attitude towards marital infidelity (β=0.138, P=0.002).
Conclusion: The results showed a good fit for the proposed model in this study. Moreover, marital satisfaction played an important role in the relationship between forgiveness and the feeling of loneliness with the attitude toward marital infidelity.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Marital satisfaction is regarded as a crucial aspect of overall well-being, affecting mental health, physical health, and overall life satisfaction. The present study aimed to assess the mediating role of anxiety in the relationship between perceived stress and marital satisfaction among married students.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine the relationships among anxiety, perceived stress, and marital satisfaction. Participants were 356 married students recruited via stratified random sampling from Azad University in Ahvaz, Iran, in 2023. Data were collected using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Perceived Stress Questionnaire, and the Marital Satisfaction Scale. Statistical analyses, including SEM, were conducted using SPSS (version 26) and AMOS (version 26) software packages.
Results: The obtained results indicated a significant positive relationship between perceived stress and anxiety (β= 0.37; P=0.001). Furthermore, perceived stress (β=-0.16; P=0.011) and anxiety (β=-0.19; P=0.002) were both negatively associated with marital satisfaction. Bootstrap analyses confirmed the mediating role of anxiety in the relationship between stress and marital satisfaction among married students (P=0.010).
Conclusion: As evidenced by the findings of this study, higher perceived stress leads to higher anxiety, which in turn, negatively impacts marital satisfaction. The results suggested that interventions targeting anxiety reduction could improve marital satisfaction among married students.
